Commix Recall To Mind Album Launch. w/ Marcel Dettmann. Was On Friday, October 8th. @ Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA, 9pm - 5am

Room 1 - Metalheadz
Commix
Marcel Dettmann
Instra:mental
Pangaea
Pedestrian

Room 2 - Electric Minds
Duffstep
Dolan Bergin
Minkioni

When Commix made the original “Call to Mind”, one of their aims with the project was to reference the various styles that had influenced them. "Be True" was a nod to the heavily chopped up and looped samples that J-Dilla had made into a style of his own, "Bellevue" was an attempt at trying to create a minimal techno aesthetic within a drum & bass timeframe, and "Change" was their attempt at doing a modernised take on the Bristol sound of the late 90's.

When the idea for doing a remix project came about it was important to them that it continue this theme, but also that they bring in musicians that have recently flourished and brought something different to there particular genre.

In keeping with the album the launch party features a line up that is unlikely to be seen in one place again. From the pioneering techno productions of Berghain resident Marcel Dettman to the mood evoking sounds of Instra:mental and of course Commix themselves; this launch party is a platform to present the “Re:Call To Mind” album in the club environment. Additional “Re:Call To Mind” collaborators Pangaea and Pedestrian complete the main room line up. East London record label and party Electric Minds host room 2, with Commix providing a remix for new label signing Duffstep, he joins label founder Dolan Bergin with support coming from Minkioni.

The party takes place in loft spaces 1 & 2 of London's up-and-coming cross-arts centre, Rich Mix. A huge Funktion One sound system and full production will be installed in both rooms, which are fully sound proofed and noise restriction free. The Rich Mix is just 1 min walk from the new Shoreditch over ground train line which is easily accessible from both North and South London. Old Street tube is also just a few minutes walk away.

Electro-alchemists Plaid blend their trademark sound with the mesmerising textures and rhythms of a Javanese Gamelan orchestra. Gamelan has influenced so much western electronica, from Aphex Twin to Kode9, but both genres have never before shared the same stage, until now..

After the great adventures lived and all the friends made along the summer, we are finally moving forward to the winter season. And what a season we have instore!! We are über-excited of launching a monthly residence in a brand new venue at the depths of London Bridge. Welcome to Hideout, an intimate new space with an old feeling lost within the labyrinth of tunnels, dungeons and arches underneath the train station.

To headline the House Warming party of our new home we are very pleased to welcome Damián Schwartz (Oslo Rec/Mupa) to take the control on the decks and blow up our minds with his unique set full of uplifting and dark beats. After a summer bouncing between Ibiza (with gigs in Cocoon Amnesia and Space), Berlin (playing at Watergate and Arena) and his town of residence, Madrid, we at Leading Astray are more than happy to let him do the proceedings. Playing along him we welcome also to Gale Talk (Black Place), a young promise who works very closely with Damian on the studio and has a lot to show us. Opening the night will be the winner of last month’s Dj contest Alex Cliché (Cartuli’s Day), a discovered treasure behind the decks, watch out for him!

With all this in the sack, this is set to be an amazing launch night. We don’t want you to miss it, so come down and join us and become a regular from the first night!! Remember, for all those sinners, lost souls and black sheeps seeking a new place to be with a sound full of groove and dark beats here is Leading Astray. This is gonna be the party space for the best of each house under one single roof. And yes, that includes you!

See you under the arch xx

Damián Schwartz

Damián Schwartz is an electronic music artist based in Madrid. His weakness began at an early age although it wasn´t until he turned 15 did he come in to contact with techno and electronic music. At the same time Damian came across CMYKmusik and from this encounter arose Musica Charlista, a 50/50 project between Damian and Alex Under. As a producer Damian inclines towards avant-garde, developing multiple musical concepts turning his music into something original and unique. Surprise, jazz, harmony and melody are the common factors in Damian´s solo productions, although never losing sight of the dancefloor. As a Dj he doesn´t label himself, always counscious of the purpose of his set and he knows what the public need to make them dance.

He is also the man behind Mupa, a label created in order to support Schwartz‘s most personal feelings and concepts. The CONCEPT indeed as the most important matter in his universe: images, ideas and sensations giving shape to the concept, and the music as the courier of that message, because music, as water, fills everything on its route. Schwartz delivers music with soul: music that in our mind is revealed like a being that thinks and mutates by itself. Raw sequences, daily samples, strong patterns, frantic rhythms, innovation, inspiration...

Damian is also one of the founders of NET28 (Apnea, CMYKmusik, Cyclical Tracks and Mupa). Not only a label but a concept, NET28 was created in 2003 by Alex Under, Tadeo, Damián Schwartz and Imek with the idea of shaping what was to become Spain’s voice for electronic dance music. Since then it has spawned sublabels Apnea, CMYKmusik, Cyclical Tracks and Mupa and released music from artists such as Thomas Brinkmann, Martin Buttrich, and Davide Squillace.

Gale Talk

Born in 1983, this musician based in Madrid has always been motivated by music, working in diferent styles like hip-hop, house, idm, minimal or techno among others. Notably his project manager at the former Guiedi Prime contemporary arts project, focused on the dissemination of modern arts into an international panorama, like his performances in different venues around the world. In addition, he produces music for various labels, including Black Place Records, the new Kasper & Papol’s Esperanza Records sub-label. Check out his releases on Del Barrio Records, Arteqcue and Ipologica Records. He is also starting a new minimalist ambiental dub project called Ausdrücke with his friend and colleage Galman.

East End Promise. Exhibition Launch at The Londonewcastle Project Space. Was On Friday, October 8th. @ Londonewcastle Project Space, 28 Redchurch St, Shoreditch, London, E2 7DP, 7pm - 10pm

East End Promise – a multi-media event documenting and exploring the explosion of artistic and cultural activity that took place in London’s East End between 1985 and 2000 – is set to be one of the cultural events of the year. By exhibiting a large collection of representative artworks selected by the artists themselves, together with a mass of archive material (video, photography, audio), and a number of specially-commissioned new pieces, East End Promise will attempt to provide the first complete picture of one of the most significant movements of the late twentieth-century British cultural scene.

The show charts the activities of the ‘cultural migrants’ who came to the East End from all over the UK and abroad, moving into derelict spaces and filling the vacuum left by previous migrants. Unlike preceding post-war youth and cultural movements, which had mainly been based on consumption, these individuals – from a range of social and economic backgrounds – took advantage of the cheap rents to create a culture based on ideas and the processes involved in bringing them to fruition.

To reflect the vibrancy and immediacy of the DIY ethos of the time and place East End Promise celebrates, an accompanying catalogue will be compiled and sent to press in the first week of the exhibition, and launched on the last Thursday.

Artworks: BANK art group (‘VIPER/BANK TV’ from the 1996 video show of 130 artists); Gavin Turk (‘tip’ – bronze painted sculpture of bin bag – and early works and archive reworked specifically for the show); Darren Coffield (artwork and personal ‘Factual Nonsense’ archive); Anthony Oliver with Andrew Herman (‘Dogs Must Be Carried’, 35 mm slide installation of over 300 portraits, at 30 Underwood St Gallery, 1996); Adam Dant (‘The Donald Parsnips News Stand’, 1997); Stewart Home (‘Red London Video Promo’); Swifty (Large scale Installation from the famous designer); Simon Bill; Cedric Christie; Sean Dawson; Cathy de Monchaux; Lucy Wood; Geraldine Swayne (‘East End’ – the first ever Super 8 to Imax film – a documentary short about Spitalfields, past and present, including Nick Cave, Ian Sinclair, Gallon Drunk, Nick Cave, Bill Drummond, among others); and many more.

Photographs, Video & Archive: Bonnie Venture (the ultimate shoreditch portraits or 90’s and Liam Duke, unseen documentary photos of East London Strip bars from the early 90’s); Giles Moberly; Diego Ferrari’s panoramas; Dafyyd Jones; photographic archive of important East End show throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s of Peter Lewis (Artist/Curator and editor of /seconds journal); Chris Shaw (never before shown Shoreditch Portraits 1996/7, from the photographer behind, ‘My Life as a Night Porter’); Normski (Photographs of the legendary Metalheadz Sunday Session Club Nights at the Blue Note from back in the day, Bjork and Giles Deacon on the dancefloor, etc), and more.

Archive Material: Containing photos and video of just about EVERYONE – the great, the good, the beautiful, the bad and the ugly – from the East End art and cultural scene 1985-2000. Including Tracy Emin, Gilbert and George, Bob and Roberta Smith, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Damien Hirst, Angus Fairhurst, Commercial Gallery, Matt Collishaw, Jarvis Cocker, Fee Doran aka Mrs Jones, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Carl Friedman, Sarah Lucas, Nitsch show at 30 Underwood St Gallery in 1997, Max Wigram, Gary Hume, Rachel Whiteread, Maureen Paley, and more.

Publications: Atlas Press; The Ditch Magazine; 30 Underwood St; Lo Recordings; Straight No Chaser; PMYCA/Sleaze Nation; Mute Magazine; Everything Magazine; and more.

A little Bit More on our Guests

Boo Williams

Born July 20, 1967 in Chicago, Boo Williams has been a part of the city's house music entourage since 1981. This was when he first stepped up to the turntables and started DJing. Later on in the 1990's, Boo began production and then later remixing in '93.
A healthy diet of Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, stirred the flames of the 4 to the floor beat that has remained well alive ever since. In these early days, childhood collaborator turned life-long friend, Glenn Underground was to play an important role in Boo's career.
The creative spark that emerged from their early collaboration contributed greatly to them becoming influential players in the Chicago dance scene and eventually way beyond . Boo Williams and his soulful, disco-edged brand of house right down to the tougher edged realms of house rocked, even closing a set for house legend Ron Hardy back in the day, The post 80’s acid and electronic sound of house was developing into one of a more soulful nature directly borrowing from its disco, funk and soul heritage and formulating the sub genres of house that we speak of to this day.
Boo has gone on to release some of the most essential house cuts on some the most revered labels such as Relief , Residual , Nitelife , Moods & Grooves , Guidance , Rush Hour &many more !!! Not to be missed !!!!!!!!!!

Efdemin

A friend of Süd and a perfectly well formed producer and a deadly dj Efdemin’s first ever London gig was back @ Süd in June 2007. A night that saw him play one of the finest sets we’d heard in a long while . He has since made plenty of returns to Süd . Those that made a sojourn to the recent addition of the Freerotation Festival would have gotten a taster of just what he is capable of. Efdemin is not only a great house dj but he is equally amazing and fully adept to playing a techno set .
Come the 2nd October he will be expertly blending house and techno.

Efdemin has recently been receiving props for his 2nd ace album on the much lauded Dial Records . An album titled “Chicago” – A reference & homage to the phenomenal contribution and impact Chicago has had on electronic music .

We are fully excited to welcome him back and are equally excited to have his company @ our 10th birthday!

Jitterbug

Jitterbug is quite happy with not having too much of the spotlight on him
though his talents as both a dj and producer will no doubt bring him to the fore. His current and 2nd ever release on Uzuri has brought quite a fair bit of attention from some of the most revered dj’s out there .
His mix on Uzuri’s Soundcloud continues to bring him new fans each day ‘ clocking up over a 1000 listen’s within a day and a half .
When not in the studio .Jitterbug can be found behind the counter at a certain record shop in the west end of London or writing for the ace Infinite State Machine blog .

Rounding off the proceedings will be the trusted ressies in the form of Nick Craddock and Süd Electronic & Uzuri Recording’s head honcho , Lerato , aka Lakuti who will also be celebrating her birthday on the 2nd October!!!

Süd will be making a return to the ace Camp basement – a stone’s throw from Old Street tube. A raw basement space perfectly ripe for a proper knees up . A great sound system will be in place too on the night. Oh, did we mention that the party will be going until 8 am the next day !!!

Your company will be greatly appreciated at this landmark event.

Hope you can make it !!!

He is also remixing the next Phonica single - "African Drug" from Bob Holroyd - it should be released the same time as the party!

Next up is one of our djs / producers of the year - John Talabot, hailing from Barcelona - anyone who has heard his "Matilda's Dream" 12 inch on Permanent Vacation should know what we are talking about - astounding record! You should also check his remixes too
