TROY PIERCE (Items&Things)

Growing up in Indiana, right by the electronic hotspots of Detroit and Chicago, it's no wonder Troy Pierce was infected with the dance music bug early on. Since then, he's developed into a pillar of the modern techno community thanks to world tours, live shows, albums and EPs under a number of aliases and as part of more than one studio collective.

The Troy Pierce sound is one which has constantly veered from dense, layered and abstract to stripped down, acid infused and pulsing. His sonic palette is one that draws on a wide array of influences and reaches far outside the confines of the studio and into an otherworld entirely. Fusing techno with minimalism, darkness with light and heaviness with rhythm, this American has never been afraid to experiment in the outer regions of his vast musical universe.

"I like making and playing weird music for weird people - those WTF tracks that stick in your head as a sound from another dimension" says the man whose close association to techno bastion Minus has earned him a deserved and revered reputation during the years since first emerging. Looking ahead though, it will be for his own label, Items & Things (co-run with friends Magda and Marc Houle) that he is most known.

Make Me Loft Party. Lawrence (Dial). Was On Friday, April 12th. @ at a secret location, 10pm - 6am

Lawrence's melancholic, measured brand of house and techno has been consistent in its quality for more than ten years, thirty singles, five full length albums and around fifty remixes. In the realm of electronic music, maintaining such a consistency of quality is rare; having your first releases sound remarkably undated over this length of time is almost unheard of, yet this rings true for Lawrence's music.

Over the years, his label Dial has seen a remarkable run of releases from kindred artists like Efdemin, John Roberts, Pigon, Pantha Du Prince, Roman Flügel and many more. Its off-shoot label, Laid, has since 2009 done similarly well on a deep house tip, with memorable releases by Rick Wade, Kassem Mosse, Smallpeople and RNDM.

In 2006, Lawrence, along with a few close friends set up the record store and physical label Smallville Records. The friendly vibes and family feel of the store also extends to the regular parties they throw and of course the music that the label releases.

And to top it off, he is known throughout Europe as one of the finest deep house DJs on the scene. We know that his sound is perfectly suited to the unique loft space where we are starting to make our home. Three hours of classy, soulful, seductive deepness are the order of the evening.

Support on the night comes from Make Me residents Rubin, Rupes and Nic Baird.

Junktion. Varoslav. Was On Friday, April 12th. @ Bar A Bar, 133-135 Stoke Newington Road, N16 8BT, From 10pm

Spring is literally just around the corner, and with that comes the 5th edition of Junktion. This time around we’re hosting the excellent sounds of Paris based DJ and label owner Varoslav (Rue de Plaisance). In the past Varoslav has collaborated on releases for various labels with artists such as David K, dOP, Guy Gerber, and Chaim. Nowadays, he’s busy leading the path with his own label Rue de Plaisance, which has seen some brilliant releases by Norm Talley, Yakine, and Professor Inc. to name a few. Alongside our main guest will be J.Santil of SOLAR and Me+1 fame; who together with our usual suspects Nicson (Flumo / Galaktika), Miguel Colmenares (Neovinyl / Colectivo Futuro), and Oliver Brunetti (Colectivo Futuro) will be providing appropriate moods & grooves to warm up the dancefloor.

Hello all

Thanks so much for coming to our last edition over the bank holiday with Fumiya Tanaka, Nicolas Lutz, Borja S & Voigtmann, roadblock.

For this edition we are launching our participation at the amazing ECHO FESTIVAL (www.echofestival.com) and since AUDIO WERNER is headlining our stage at the festival it is totally suitable that this night is also dedicated to the label he part owns, HARTCHEF DISCOS by adding to the bill such respected and competent artists such as LOSOUL and JICHAEL MACKSON supported of course by our own VOIGTMANN.

Our stage date at the festival is 9th June 2013 however we will of course be at the festival for its entire duration, how could we not? They have just announced the last batch of artists, the entire concept of this festival is totally in line with our ethos. Tickets for the whole of the 4 days are £65, accommodation is £22 per person per night in amazing apartments just by the festival site and cheap airlines available to several locations close to the festival. Now, combine that with 4 days on the beach with your friends to amazing music from these artists (http://www.echofestival.com/category/artists/).

The influence that the London based Hessle Audio imprint has had on the wider music scene has never really been more apparent. Evident most in the sounds adopted by their fans and followers after Pangaea’s work got even more rugged, following on from Pearson Sound exploring 808 drum packs in his productions and Ben UFO exploring deep crates of house and techno in his DJ sets and shows on Rinse FM; the fact they manage to maintain such a stringent and principal outlook in all of their collected output elevates them as a crew for a lot of music fans. Their residencies here have been no exception with a clear and palpable level of excitement surrounding the guests they choose to book and the way the trio present them amidst a flurry of breath-taking DJ sets. Inviting Trilogy Tapes owner Will Bankhead and Werk Discs boss Actress - a universally lauded figure whose music seems to be both anti-dancefloor but perfect for more exploratory sets at the same time - for the April session is another move that helps to unite their passion for dance music with a more texturally experimental pool of sound.
Launched at the start of this year, our new artist led record label, Houndstooth, has so far only been home to work from Berlin resident, Call Super and the new artistic guise of Dylan Richards, House of Black Lanterns, but we’re launching the label proper in Room Two with performances from the entire roster for 2013, almost. Two live performances from HoBL and Throwing Snow will come flanked by DJ sets from the mysterious and heavy set dancefloor collective, Akkord, Bristolian producer Al Tourettes, Call Super and the world exclusive outing of Paul Woolford under his Special Request guise. It’s a launch party that we hope outlines a little bit of our immediate future as we work to align a group of artists whose work continues to inspire and excite us.
Idle Hands makes the return trip up the M4 to takeover Room Three for the second time bringing the close knit group of artists who populate the label and the record shop of the same name on Stokes Croft in Bristol onto the London stage. Kowton, a lad who’s fast becoming famous for his fusion of grime sounds and techno mentality, tops the bill with Manchester exports Alex Coulton and AnD joining the mysterious Rhythmic Theory and two of Bristol most prized and eclectic selectors, The Kelly Twins behind the turntables.

LOW POP UP presents Pizza. Agaric. Was On Friday, April 12th. @ Love & Liquor, 34 Kilburn High Road, NW6 5UA, 10pm - 3.30am

We are delighted to announce the launch of Pizza, LOW POP UP’s brand new night that will take place every month on a Friday. Pizza is a night designed to bring to you the truly upcoming next generation underground DJ’s to an intimate space in the heart of West London.

Way Back Here. Tom Demac (Hypercolour / Pets). Was On Friday, April 12th. @ Dance Tunnel, 95 Kingsland High Street, Dalston, London E8 2PB, 9pm - 3am

We are delighted to announce that our next guest at the Dance Tunnel will be none other than Manchester based Welshman, Tom Demac.

Over the course of 2012, Tom's name went from bubbling to boiling. His notable mix for XLR8R magazine cemented his place as THE one to watch for 2013. With releases and remixes for labels like Murmur, Morris Audio, Four Twenty, Pets, Hypercolour and its fancy-able younger sister Glass Table, Tom's stock rises steadily as more people are exposed to his next level production talents.

Tom's musical tastes are abundant so expect his 90 minute set to be a full of selections that you won't hear from anyone else.

Warming things up will be Shango B2B with NTS Live family and pastry enthusiast Percy Ingle. Laizi takes on full fat filler duties and the very talented Dave McDonogh (Bixon) dusts the board with flour, setting things up for a delicious night of electronic snacks that won't upset your stomach.
